Professional profile/background:

Qualified from University of London, Charing Cross and
Westiminster Medical School (BSc(hons), MBBS). Andrew
undertook MRCP training prior to entering ophthalmology residency
and finally lecturership with Professor John Forrester in Aberdeen
Scotland to further his clinician-scientist training. He was an MRC
Post Doctoral Fellow and then Senior Lecturer at University of
Aberdeen until his move to University of Bristol in 2000 as Chair
and Professor of Ophthalmology. In 2007 he was elected and awarded
the prestigious Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
He remains an active researcher with over 200 peer review
publications and lead laboratory and clinical research groups and
he is currently on the Faculty of the National Institute of Health
Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He was
instrumental in developing the infrastructure and research
facilitates for the team to deliver opportunity and choice to our
patients through research trials as well as ensure management of
complex ocular inflammatory disease and surgical vitreoretinal
disorders are evidence based are at the forefront.
