Professional profile/background:  

Mr Bryan undertook his basic medical education at the University of Nottingham qualifying in 1982.

He trained in general surgery in Bristol and Cardiff. Subsequent training in cardiothoracic surgery was at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, Papworth Hospital Cambridge and Washington University, St Louis Missouri, USA.

Mr Bryan took up a Consultant Post at Bristol Royal Infirmary in 1993 and has worked in the institution ever since. He is currently the Lead doctor for the Bristol Heart Institute, a Principal Investigator with a portfolio of studies on myocardial protection within the Biomedical Research Unit and an examiner in cardiac surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons.
