George Asimakopoulos trained on the West London rotation in cardiothoracic surgery (1999-2006) and spent an additional year as a Fellow in Heart and Lung Transplantation at Harefield Hospital.

He performs over 230 cardiac surgical operations a year including 140 bypass operations and 90 valve and aortic procedures.  His main interests include off-pump and minimal access bypass surgery and aortic root surgery.

He is on the panel of question writers of the Intecollegiate Specialty Board in Cardiothoracic Surgery. He is an Educational Supervisor for trainees and regularly acts as a supervisor to medical students for SSC projects.

He has previously published over 50 papers in peer reviewed journals and his current research interests include minimal access cardiac surgery, TAVI and robotic surgery.
