Doug West qualified from Edinburgh Medical School in 1997.
He completed his basic surgical training at the Hammersmith
Hospital, London, and undertook a clinical research fellowship in
minimal access cardiothoracic surgery at the National Heart and
Lung Institute, South Kensington.
He returned to Scotland in 2004 to complete higher surgical
training in cardiothoracic surgery. This included advanced
training in thoracic and minimal access surgery at both Edinburgh
Royal Infirmary and Toronto General Hospital, Canada.
From 2010-11 he served as an acting and then locum consultant in
thoracic surgery at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital,
Clydebank, Scotland.
In 2011 he joined the Department of Thoracic Surgery at UH
Bristol as a consultant thoracic surgeon.
