The Guild of Friends
The Guild of Friends for the Bristol Royal Hospital for
Children (charity no 1068523)
The Guild of Friends has been working to support the hospital
since 1948. For many years it provided the main source of
charitable funding for the hospital. The Guild consists of a
small committee of volunteers which incurs only the
most minimal of costs so that all monies donated to us go
directly to benefit the children in the hospital. The aim of
the charity is quite simply to support the welfare of the children
in the care of the hospital. We work closely with the hospital
management and staff to ensure that we provide the most effective
help possible.
We give £1,300 every month to the social work department which
provides subsistence support to families on low incomes whose
children are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Families come to
the hospital from all over the South West peninsular and the money
we donate frequently goes to help with the costs of travel as well
as meeting the cost of food and telephone calls.
We fund monthly visits from professional entertainers and
magicians who bring fun and laughter to the wards. We support the
play department which provides creative and educational activities
for both patients and their siblings. On the request of the
hospital we provide the money to buy specialist equipment which is
urgently needed but which is beyond the current resources of the
hospital.
