University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust response to Healthcare Commission’s Emergency Department Survey 2008

14 January 2009

The Trust was in the top 20 per cent nationally in terms of patients overall rating of the care they received while in the Emergency Department. The survey also shows a strong appreciation among patients for the way they were cared for by doctors and nurses while in the department.

Irene Scott, the Trusts Chief Operating Officer, says:

We are encouraged by the results of the survey, which shows that we performed well in the key clinical areas.

As an organisation which promotes excellence in care we are aware that there is more work for us to do to improve the experience of those who attend our Emergency Departments. We will be using this survey to inform our actions and developments.  In particular, we will focus on the environment of the department to make it more welcoming for patients. We know that parking is a problem at our city centre site and we are continually looking at options to improve this situation.
