5th March 2010
In its second year as a Foundation Trust, University Hospitals
Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is holding its election for Governors
to its Membership Council, for a three-year term from June
2010.
The role of a Governor is to provide comment and direction on
the Trusts strategic plans as well as reflecting the views of their
constituents. There are a total of 14 positions for election
including:
Four Public Governors:
Bristol area - two vacancies
South Gloucestershire area - two vacancies
Seven Patient and Carer Governors:
Carers of Adult Patients - two vacancies
Local Patients - three vacancies
Non-Local Patients - two vacancies
Three Staff Governors:
Nursing and Midwifery staff - two vacancies
Other Clinical Healthcare staff - one vacancy
Clive Hamilton, Governor Representative says: "I have the
privilege of helping Governors in the important task of challenging
and supporting the Trust Board in their decision making. It
is our aim to improve healthcare in and around Bristol by making
sure the views of members are heard and reflected in the Trusts
future plans."
To stand for election, it is necessary to be a member of the
Foundation Trust. It is simple to join; you need to be a
local resident, or a service user, or a carer for a service user
who has used our services in recent years in order to be
eligible. Governors should have an interest in the NHS, have
the time, energy and enthusiasm to represent the views of others
and the desire to shape the quality of healthcare in and around
Bristol.
Training and support is provided to equip Governors with the
tools to work effectively as part of the Membership Council, as
well to assist them in furthering the aims and visions of the
Trust. Nominations are due to close at 12 noon, Thursday 8 April
2010, with a ballot to take place in May.
