University Hospitals Bristol Nhs Foundation Trust Awards National Framework Contract

18 November 2009

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust has selected Salud dental software as part of its vision to establish a fully integrated paperless information and communications technologies (ICT) platform for patient treatment, dental education and research throughout the Bristol Dental Hospital and School. It will be implemented in the Bristol Dental School at the beginning of next year.

The Trust was nominated by the other 10 English dental hospitals to lead the procurement process on their behalf. Salud was selected via an Official Journal of the European Union tender (OJEU) against considerable competition.  The Trusts OJEU award is part of an English National Framework Contract with participation from all 11 English Dental Hospitals, with the backing of Connecting for Health, the Department of Health and the Chief Dental Officer for England.

The delivery of premium quality oral health care services and research is core to the values and standards of service of the NHS. Many other countries in Europe and internationally will be monitoring the success of this national programme and we hope that the initiative taken in this area by Connecting for Health, the Department of Health, the NHS and our colleagues in the other 10 Framework dental hospitals will lead to similar initiatives within the UK and Europe.

Dr Graham Rich, Chief Executive of the Trust, said:  The process of selection was rigorous and we are delighted to have reached a successful conclusion. In conjunction with the Department of Health and the Office of the Chief Dental Officer for England we look forward to playing a leading role in this innovative and exciting development in the delivery of dental care, education and research across all of the English dental hospitals.

The same system is also used across four continents, including dental schools in Boston, Oslo, Madrid, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Cardiff and Dublin.
