Security staff serving Bristols inner city hospitals have become
the first NHS team in the country to achieve a prestigious national
accreditation in recognition of their skills in protecting
patients, staff and visitors.
The accreditation for Managing Conflict for Enforcement Officers
offered by the UKs longest established awarding body, the Northern
Council for Further Education (NCFE), aims to develop the skills
required by Security Officers to help them identify conflict and
give them the verbal and physical tactics to defuse conflict
situations. In rare cases where this first step fails, the Team are
qualified to use safe and approved control techniques.
Says Paul Wood, Head of Security and Transport: "This is an
absolutely fantastic achievement which reinforces the Trusts desire
to ensure our hospitals are safe for patients, staff and visitors.
Our security staff are experienced in defusing situations but this
training helps ensure that on the rare occasions when problems
arise, the team can draw on the latest safe, effective and legally
recognised techniques."
