Safe And Sustainable Review Childrens Heart Surgery Services Consultation Events

In 2001, the Kennedy Report recommended the need for fewer specialist centres for childrens heart surgery. In response to this recommendation the national Safe and Sustainable review of childrens heart surgery services was established to ensure that babies, children, young people and their families receive the best possible outcomes.

Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is one of eleven centres in England to perform this type of highly specialised surgery for children from across the South West of England and South Wales.

In February the Safe and Sustainable review panel recommended four options for public consultation and reflecting the quality of our services, Bristol Royal Hospital for Children has been included in all four options. We are delighted that the high quality of our services, the dedication and commitment of our staff and the outcomes for our patients have been recognised this way. A four month public consultation on these options is now underway.

There are two consultation events in our area:

The Cardiff event will take place on 5 April 2011 from 6-8pm at Cardiff City Football Stadium.
The Taunton event will take place on 7 June 2011 from 3-5pm at Taunton Racecourse.

Please come along and show your support for Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.  You must register in advance by phone 0845 363 1478 or register online at www.specialisedservices.nhs.uk/safeandsustainable

A series of Young Peoples events will take place in different locations across England. To find out more about these please visit www.specialisedservices.nhs.uk/safe_sustainable/heart-safe-sus-events

If you cannot attend an event in person you can complete a consultation response form online at www.ipsos-mori.com/safeandsustainable.

We want to encourage as many people to come along as possible. If you or someone you know is interested in or has been affected by heart services at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children please do give your feedback.
