University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust welcomes the
recommendations from the Safe and Sustainable panel that were today
approved by the JCPCT.
We are delighted that Bristol Royal Hospital for Children has been
included in all recommended options for the designation of
paediatric cardiac surgery services by the National Specialist
Commissioning Group.
Our highly experienced and dedicated staff have fully engaged with
the Safe and Sustainable review process since it began in 2009, and
the Trust continues to support the need to concentrate clinical
expertise in the right number of centres to meet the national
caseload and achieve the best clinical outcomes for children.
The paediatric cardiac service at Bristol Royal Hospital for
Children has consistently demonstrated the quality of its care
through excellent outcomes that can only be achieved through the
highest standards.
It also meets the service specification standards set out by the
NSCG and we believe the service is ideally placed to provide an
excellent service to the people of the South West, South Wales and
beyond.
We will play a full and active role in the public consultation
process on the recommended options which begins on 28 February and
will end in June 2011.
