Iain Fairbairn has been appointed as a non-executive director of
University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHBristol).
Mr Fairbairn's four-year term of office begins on December 1. He
was formerly a commercial solicitor, with more than 20 years'
experience of offering property, commercial, planning and
construction advice to the NHS.
His career during that time included Public Finance Initiative
(PFI) projects, the establishment of NHS trusts and joint working
between the NHS and other public and private bodies.
Mr Fairbairn is the founder and developer of a care village for
the elderly in Cornwall, which includes a 37-bed nursing home. He
is a director of a consultancy in elderly care.
He gained an honours degree in law at University College London
before qualifying as a solicitor in 1979. He retired in 2004.
Mr Fairbairn has also been an assistant solicitor and partner in
legal practices in both the City of London and Bristol. Mr
Fairbairn was also a director and company secretary of a private
manufacturing company.
He is currently a member of UHBristol's Business Advisory
Group.
Mr Fairbairn said: "I am proud to have been asked to serve as a
non-executive director for UHBristol. My family and I have direct
personal experience of the genuine care provided by its staff and I
admire enormously the work they do.
"The Trust is a great institution of vital importance to the
people of Bristol and further afield. I hope that my long
experience of working with the NHS will help me to make a real
contribution to ensure UHBristol's future success.
"It will be an exciting step forward if it achieves its ambition
to become a new NHS foundation trust."
University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust chairman John

Trust board. He brings a range of experience and knowledge that
will add greatly to the effectiveness of our work."
The remuneration for the Trust non-executive post is £5,875 per
annum.
Mr Fairbairn does not have political or other interests which
have to be declared. He holds no Ministerial appointments.

Bristol General Hospital.
