4th March 2010
The Bristol Eye Hospital, part of University Hospitals Bristol
NHS Foundation Trust, is holding a national ophthalmic nurses
conference at the Bristol Hotel on Saturday 17 April to celebrate
200 years of nursing at the hospital. Organised by nurses for
nurses, the programme will look at the past and present as well as
future developments in ophthalmic care.
In line with the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the
Bristol Eye Hospital (BEH), this years conference promises to be
the most interesting to date with a specific historical focus.
Special guest speaker Janet Marsden, Professor of Ophthalmology
at Manchester Metropolitan University, says:
"We are all really looking forward to this conference; it is a
great chance for ophthalmic nurses from around the country to come
together to share their experience and expertise, especially in
light of the 200th anniversary of the BEH."
With ophthalmologist and local historian Vincent Marmion, as
well as Professor Janet Marsden, the conference will address the
important role that nurses have to play in the delivery of
world-class ophthalmic care. There will be a chance for all
attending nurses to spend time throughout the day perusing the many
guest stands and to take advantage of networking opportunities.
Last year, more than 100 nurses from all around the country
attended the conference, which was a great success. This year, the
organisers are hoping for an even greater number of attendees. The
Bristol Eye Hospital has been at the forefront of ophthalmic care
over the last 200 years and it is hoped that this conference will
encourage the continued development of ophthalmic nursing
throughout the NHS.
