The maternity unit at University Hospitals
Bristol NHS Foundation Trust has received top marks in the highest
level of a major quality assessment.
The assessment, which took place over a
two-day period at St. Michaels Hospital, involved the rigorous
inspection of patient safety standards and the quality of clinical
care, before, during and after birth.
The hospital, at which more than 5,000 women
give birth every year, passed with flying colours and did not drop
a single point across any of the 47 assessed categories.
Bryony Strachan, consultant obstetrician and
clinical governance lead says: We are really proud of everybody in
the unit, and it is really important that families know that they
will receive the very best standard of care in our
hospital.
Robert Woolley, Acting Chief Executive of the
Trust says: The Trust is delighted that the excellent quality of
care at St Michaels Hospital has been officially recognised in this
way. It is a credit to the whole maternity team for all their
hard work and commitment to patient safety.
The National Health Service Litigation
Authority (NHSLA) awarded the level-three rating in February to
University Hospitals Bristol, one of only a few Trusts in the
country to have reached this standard.
