15 April 2011
From Monday 18 April, for four weeks, there will be a reduction
in the number of 15 minute car parking spaces outside the Bristol
Royal Infirmary (BRI). However the five minute drop off zone and
the two disabled car parking spaces will remain.
The changes have been made to enable the final stage of the
demolition of the former nurses home on Terrell Street, which backs
onto the area outside University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation
Trusts (UH Bristol) Emergency Departments.
The site is being cleared as part of the preparatory building
work that will enable UH Bristol to redevelop the Bristol Royal
Infirmary and improve its facilities for patients and staff. As
part of the redevelopment the Trust will move all patient care from
its oldest building - the BRI ˜Old Building which was built in 1737
- and the out of date King Edward Building.
For four weeks the number of 15 minute car parking spaces
outside the BRI on Maudlin Street will be reduced from ten to four.
The five minute drop off zone and the two disabled car parking
spaces at the front of the drop off zone will remain and there will
be a member of staff on duty in the area to ensure that the traffic
flows smoothly.
We realise that this will cause some disruption to our patients
and visitors and we ask for their patience and understanding. There
will be changes to drop off zones and some car parking as more and
more building work takes place on site over the next few years but
we will do our best to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum.
From Monday there will be a member of staff on duty to ensure that
the new arrangements outside the BRI work smoothly, said Andy
Headdon, Strategic Development Programme Director.
