Bristol Patients Show Their Artwork

5 August 2009

Artwork designed by patients at Bristol General Hospital will be on display at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trusts Education Centre this Thursday. The Masks We Wear exhibition will be open from 11.00am to 3.00pm.

The central focus of the work on display is the Mask Project created by previous patients as a way of expressing their experiences and time in hospital.

For the last seven years staff at Bristol General Hospital have been using creative activities as part of the rehabilitation process for patients who have experienced a stroke and other long term illnesses.

This is the first time that any of the artwork created has been shown to the public.

Jane Buswell, Nurse Consultant - Care of Older People, says: When a patient experiences an illness such as a stroke their emotional and psychological well being needs to be considered alongside the physical effects of the illness. This exhibition illustrates how the multi-disciplinary team contributes to the recovery of the patient.
