BHI

The Bristol Heart Institute is the new flagship building for University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, right in the heart of Bristol.  The building has been designed in partnership with patients, staff and the public and will deliver the very best in cardiac services to the people of Bristol, the South West and beyond.

Over the last three years patients have been involved in every stage of the design to make everything easier for those being treated in the building.

Come along to our unique Public Open Day and see for yourself this state of the art facility on Saturday 25th April between 11:00am and 3:00pm.

Practical information about the Open Day

BHI
Do I need to book?
No you dont. Just turn up from 11:00am and well before 3:00pm, as it will take about 30 to 45 minutes to look around.

Will I be shown around?
No, youll be given a leaflet showing the route to take, which will be clearly signposted.  The leaflet will have lots of information about the building and there will be knowledgeable staff at key points to answer your questions and give you more information.

How long will it take?
We anticipate that it will take about 45 minutes to walk around the building.  In the Atrium area there will be exhibitions and information, as well as refreshments, so you might want to allow about an hour all together.

Are there facilities to buy refreshments?
Yes, tea, coffee, cold drinks, sandwiches and snacks will be available.

Is there a charge?
No.  The Trusts official charity, Above & Beyond Charities will be at the event, promoting their fundraising events and telling you about the grants they have made to the BHI to improve patient care, you may end up buying a Heart of Bristol T-Shirt, or volunteering to run the Bristol Half Marathon!

What will I see?
This is a unique opportunity to see a hospital before patients start using the facilities.  You will be able to see a Cath Lab, where we perform primary angioplasty, two of our new wards, the Coronary Care Unit and the spacious, welcoming outpatient area, reception and atrium.

Can I take photographs?
Yes of course.

Can I bring my family and friends?
Of course, there are no limits of the number of people who can attend.

How do I find my way to the Bristol Heart Institute?
There is no parking available at the Bristol Heart Institute. There is a multi-storey car park about 10 minutes walk away in Park Row (Trenchard Street).

Access for visitors on foot is via Horfield Road, off St Michael's Hill. Take the turning into the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre car park, then bear left and walk down the slope.  The Bristol Heart Institute will be straight in front of you; walk straight on, keeping the Bristol Heart Institute on your right and you will come to the entrance.

I find stairs very difficult, will I be able to get around?
Yes, there are lifts available throughout the route.

I will need special assistance; will someone be able to help me?
Yes, just let us know when you arrive and we will assist you.

Is it suitable for children?
Yes, we believe it is important that children are not anxious about hospital environments so we would encourage children to attend.  There will some activities for children as well as a competition - as well as different exhibitions about the life and work of the Trust.
