Cardiology Research Team

We are clinically based within the Bristol Heart Institute hospital and share a research office with the Cardiac Surgery Research Nurses on level 5 of the building (C502).  We also share an office and desk at the Clinical Research & Imaging Centre (CRIC).

Research Lead: Angus Nightingale

Research Sister: Laura Gallego

The Cardiology Research team works in collaboration with industry and institutions world-wide, across a range of commercial, academic and NIHR portfolio and non- portfolio phase I-IV studies. Locally we have links with the University of Bristol (UOB) and the University of West of England (UWE). In particular we work with UOB scientists on physiology studies relating to hypertension, and are collaborating with technologists from UWE on devices to assist patients. We also work with the Biomedical Research Unit (BRU) and its associated Clinical Trials Unit.

The portfolio of studies covers all aspects of cardiology from the acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and coronary revascularisation field, trans-catheter valve interventions, electrophysiology and devices, as well as heart failure, hypertension and novel, first-in-man procedures and devices. There are also a number of trials from the related fields of Imaging and Congenital Heart Conditions.
