The Radiation Group in MEMO Clinical Engineering, University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, has a vacancy for a senior Radiotherapy engineer.

The successful candidate must have significant experience of maintaining radiotherapy equipment, an aptitude in fault finding and enthusiasm to learn new technologies and be registered on the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT) or eligible for such.

The post is based in the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre in central Bristol in a friendly department working in close co-operation with a number of other professions.

The post holder will lead a team of 5 technologists and deputise for the group leader and share some of his workload in day to day management and development of the service, which includes Radiotherapy and Radiology.

The post requires a methodical approach and high standards of workmanship when carrying out planned and breakdown maintenance on Linear Accelerators and a range of high tech medical equipment.

A sound knowledge of IT is also required as radiotherapy is dependent upon many IT systems supported through the section.

The post holder will be required to start early in the day to run up the treatment machines before clinical use on a rota and also to work 5 or 6 planned weekends a year to carry out maintenance. There may also be shift working generally to cover the hours 8am to 8pm. Overtime may also be required according to the needs of the service.

MEMO Clinical Engineering is part of the Department of Medical Physics and Bioengineering and is accredited by BSI to the Quality Standard ISO13485 for the manufacture and maintenance of medical devices.
