Professor A. V. Ramanan, FRCPCH, FRCP, is a Consultant
Paediatric Rheumatologist at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children
and Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Bath, UK. After
postgraduate training in London and Manchester, he completed a two
year Fellowship in Paediatric Rheumatology at the Hospital for Sick
Children, Toronto, Canada.
Prof. Ramanan's major research interests include genetic aspects
of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), juvenile dermatomyositis
(JDM), biologics for uveitis in children with JIA and macrophage
activation syndrome (MAS). He has just been awarded a substantial
grant as Chief Investigator to do a RCT of adalimumab in JIA
associated uveitis.
Prof. Ramanan has published more than 90 papers in peer reviewed
journals and authored chapters in textbooks. He is Associate Editor
for the Archives of Diseases in Childhood and in the Editorial
Board of Rheumatology. He is also a scientific committee member of
the MCRN/arc Clinical Studies Group for Paediatric
Rheumatology.
Prof. Ramanan is a National Training Advisor for RCPCH for
training in paediatric rheumatology, a Medical Advisor for the
National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society and the National Ankylosing
Spondylitis Society. Prof. Ramanan was awarded the British Society
of Rheumatology's Innovation in Clinical Practice award in
2010.
