Medicine division
These
are exciting times in the Division of Medicine. We have re-located
and now settled in our new refurbished medical wards which has
created a 'medical village' within the hospital. This includes
moving into brand new purpose built wards for some of our
specialties. If variety is what you are looking for we like to
think that we offer a wide range of specialties within the
Division.
Our inpatient specialty wards include Respiratory, where we
provide specialist non-invasive ventilation, Gastrointestinal
services including intestinal failure and liver failure, healthcare
for older adults, short stay medicine and acute stroke
care.

In addition to this, our division is responsible for the
dynamic and busy Emergency Department where we see an average of
200 patients a day, as well as elective admissions and
rehabilitation at our recently opened South Bristol Community
Hospital.

We are continually developing our 'front door' services such as
Ambulatory Care and GPSU, to avoid hospital admission. We have also
implemented a larger brand new OPAU (Older person Assessment Unit)
and AMU (Acute Medical assessment Unit) to improve patient's
pathway, meaning that we are working closer with our primary care
colleagues to achieve this.
