Apprenticeships

PharmacistApprenticeships are a great way to learn and earn on the job. UH Bristol is now an official main provider of apprenticeships and offers a huge range of career opportunities in clinical and support services.

An apprenticeship is a work-based training programme available to anyone aged 16 to retirement age who is looking for an exciting new opportunity to train, develop and further their career.

They allow people to gain professional skills, knowledge and UK-recognised accreditations while in a paid job.

At University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation you could start your career in Healthcare support roles, learning whilst earning on a minimum of £13,787 per annum (full time).  As an organisation we encourage further development of all employees to progress upward within their chosen field.

Upon successful completion of an apprenticeship, apprentices are expected to secure the role permanently.

Apprenticeships at UH Bristol are available in a variety of roles such as healthcare support roles, administration / clerical, team leadership and management, dental and construction.

EstatesUH Bristol supports life-long learning and apprenticeships are also available for existing staff who want to develop new skills or to have the skills they have developed in their role acknowledged as they look for career recognition and progression.

Apprenticeship Standards are available from Level 2 (which is the equivalent of 4 GCSEs) to Level 7 (equivalent to a Master's Degree). There are various point of entry onto the apprenticeship career ladder to suit the needs of the organisation and qualifications of the applicant. The Trust will develop a career pathway for each apprentice to facilitate your progression from one level to the next.

Traineeships

The Trust, in collaboration with Weston College, launched a series of 10-week work placement programmes throughout the year. To date the Education Department has run three programmes with others scheduled for the 18/19 period. The UH Bristol traineeship programme is proving very successful in attracting new talent to the organisation. The traineeship programmes have enabled 60% of trainees to secure a permanent position or an apprenticeship. The traineeships programme is available to people from the ages of 16 years old and upwards, to improve employability behaviours and skills whilst on work placement (in an unpaid position).

The placement opportunities are both in either a clinical and non-clinical role. Traineeships are available in various locations/departments within the trust. A clinical placement focuses upon a Nursing Assistant role. Whereas, a non-clinical placement can be found in areas such as: administration, reception, outpatients to name but a few.

A traineeship is a work based hands on programme offering individuals an opportunity to improve their individual employability skills whilst working towards literacy and numeracy qualifications with the college. Trainees are encouraged and supported to apply for substantive roles and apprenticeships within the Trust and the wider health community.

The next Traineeship programme is scheduled to start on the 24 September 2018.

We have limited places for our September programme.

If you are interested in applying for the traineeship or require further information, please contact Julia Hudson Traineeship/Work Experience Coordinator at WEX@uhbristol.nhs.uk  or Ian Sweet at ian.sweet@weston.ac.uk

Please provide a brief outline why you feel a traineeship would benefit your department and we will contact you as soon as possible.
