Training

Anyone undertaking clinical research (as PI, Research Nurse, Research Assistant etc) needs to undergo training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP training).

As well as this, you need to ensure that you or your team have the necessary expertise to carry out the research before starting on the project (for postgraduates this can form part of the higher degree). If you don't have the expertise, you need to collaborate with someone who does.
