UH Bristol hosts a large number of commercial studies across all
our clinical divisions. Commercial research studies from the
pharmaceutical and medical device industries play an important part
in keeping the NHS, and UH Bristol, at the forefront of modern
treatment and can give our patients access to treatments they would
not usually have access to, as well as supporting the health and
wealth of the nation.
The Research & Innovation Department is committed to
supporting commercial research at UH Bristol, where it is of a high
standard and has the potential to benefit our patients and the
Trust as a whole. We have a dedicated Commercial Research Team
within R&I who strive to make UH Bristol an environment where
industry led research can thrive through rapid set-up and
delivering to time and target.
Commercial research can be defined as research studies that are
sponsored or fully funded by industry and are run within the NHS
under a contract between the company and the NHS organisation.
These tend to be clinical trials of new drugs or medical devices,
but can also involve qualitative or non-interventional
