Guild of Friends

The Guild of Friends of the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children

Registered Charity No 1068523

The Guild of Friends is an entirely voluntary organisation that supports the work of the hospital in a number of ways:

We provide funding through the social workers department, to low income families, to help meet the unexpected long term costs of travel, food and telephone calls.

We fund monthly visits from professional entertainers and magicians, who inject some desperately needed fun and laughter onto the wards.

We support the play department which entertains both the patients and their siblings through a myriad of creative and educational activities as well as simply providing a haven of fun.  This department depends entirely on voluntary funding for its equipment from paint and crayons to outdoor play equipment.

We also provide more substantial funding to purchase specialist equipment which is beyond the budget of the hospital but reduces the inpatient time, theatre time or improves the quality of life of the patients.  In recent years we have purchased:

  • an intensive care monitor,
  • a specialist operating table,
  • chemotherapy computer package,
  • cardio vascular ultrasound imaging unit, and
  • TENs machines to allow children with chronic conditions to leave hospital and return to their families, school and activities.

We are an entirely voluntary committee which allows all donations go straight to benefit the children and their families rather than on administrative costs.
