#HCSweek19 - Joanne Jones

My name is Jo Jones and I am a Healthcare Scientist specialising in cardiac science. My career began in adult cardiology, but I now specialise in congenital heart disease and work in paediatric cardiology at the children's hospital, and in fetal cardiology at St Michael's Hospital.

I provide comprehensive echocardiography to support the diagnosis, screening and diagnostic follow up care for children, pregnant woman and their families affected by congenital heart defects. In addition to my clinical duties I provide clinical skills support, supervision and training to other healthcare professionals and provide lecturing for both under-graduate and post-graduate courses at the University of the West of England.

I also work for a charity called Tiny Tickers as a specialist cardiac sonographer. In this role I provide education, training and support to sonographers across the UK, performing the 20 week anomaly scan. I am currently a student on the Higher Scientific Specialist Training Programme which is a Health Education England funded Professional Doctorate.

I hope that this course will help to provide me the opportunities to apply my skills and experience into wider healthcare science services for patients, and lead forward the next generation of scientists. At home I have a very supportive husband two children who are six and eight years old and our beloved border collie, Wilf. I enjoy reading, cycling, yoga, (dog) walking and travel.
