#HCSweek19 - Cardiac Science team

The Cardiac Science team use a range of technologies to perform diagnostic tests, analyse heart rhythm and function, and provide treatment for a variety of patients with heart disease.

They work side by side with specialist doctors and nurses in managing and treating patients with congenital heart defects, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and other complex heart conditions.

Cardiac scientists perform and report cardiac ultrasound imaging to assess the heart structure and function. They independently implant heart monitors under patients' skin to record and analyse arrhythmias. They autonomously test and program implantable cardiac devices such as pacemakers and ICDs to help relieve patient symptoms and provide lifesaving care.

You will also find cardiac scientists working in different environments throughout the hospital. They run outpatient clinics, perform tests on wards for inpatients, and provide support for operations throughout theatres in the Trust. They also run a 24 hour on call service responding to emergencies in A&E, and work as part of a team providing lifesaving care to those suffering heart attacks.
