Clinical Pharmacy Services

The majority of issues arising are likely to focus on:

  • Clinical issues at the primary / secondary care interface
  • Safe prescribing
  • Prescribing  within the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). Formulary and related traffic light system which outlines prescribing responsibly
  • The introduction of new medicines and formulary decisions

These issues should initially be addressed via Steve Brown or Kevin Gibbs.

Specialist Pharmacists are available for the major Trust specialties, including oncology, haematology, paediatrics and cardiology.  In the first instance please contact Steve Brown or Kevin Gibbs on the numbers above, or the Pharmacy secretary on 0117 342 2772.  We will arrange for the most appropriate Pharmacist to speak to you.

UH Bristol also provides a comprehensive range of pharmaceutical services including:

  • Special formulations - manufacture of specialist formulations of unlicensed pharmaceutical products, prepared on the basis of a doctor's prescription and issued to community pharmacies, dispensing GPs and other hospitals.
  • Homecare Services - provisions of high technology pharmaceutical treatments to the patient's home.
  • Anticoagulation dosing

Boots Outpatient Dispensing Service

The Trust has outsourced the outpatient dispensing services to Boots PLC through the in house branch on level 2 in the Bristol Royal Infirmary.   A service is provided whereby patients may collect the prescriptions at a local convenient branch, although these are dispensed by the Trust Boots service.
