All referrals for community mental health services must be made via the Bristol Crisis Team based at Callington Road Hospital, telephone 0117 919 5670, fax 0117 919 5247.

Emergency out-of-hours referrals and all crisis referrals must be made to the Bristol Crisis Team on 0300 555 0334.

We are a dedicated and enthusiastic team of consultant psychiatrists, specialist psychiatric nurses, a staff grade psychiatrist and several training grade doctors.

  • We see all patients aged 18 and over in the Emergency Department and patients aged 18 to 64 on all of the Trust's in-patient wards.
  • We offer a full psychosocial assessment to patients referred to us.
  • We can sign-post people on to other appropriate services, or can refer them to more specialist NHS services.
  • We aim to support patients with their mental health needs whilst they are in the hospital.  This may include medication advice, helping them cope with the psychological effects of their physical health problems, medically unexplained symptoms, support and advice regarding anxiety or mood disorders, anxiety management and relaxation techniques.
  • We offer an out-patient service for all of the above, which includes cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).
  • We offer extensive teaching and education across the Trust.
  • We can provide advice to GPs regarding any of their patients seen by this team.

We provide:

  • A prompt response
  • Psychiatric consultation regarding treatment and management plans.
  • Detailed written assessments and discharge letters.
  • Teaching and education towards and other teams about mental health issues in our hospitals.
