Bristol Haematology Unit (BHU)

The BHU is based on level 3 (new level 7) of the Bristol Heamatology and Oncology Centre (BHOC).  The unit consists of an inpatient area (Ward 62  -new ward D703), 24 beds) and a Day Unit (12 chairs, 2 beds).  BHU moved into the BHOC in 1998.  In April 2014 bone marrow transplant services for adults moved from Bristol Royal Hospital for Children to the BHOC.

Staff on BHU care for patients with malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions.  Thers include leukaemia, lymphoma, sickle-cell disease, thalassemia and myeloproliferative discorders.  The haemophilia centre is co-located with BHU and is the only comprehensive care centre for haemophilia in the South West region.

Ward D703 cares for patients with haematological conditions, including non-malignant conditions like haemophilia and sickle-cell disorders.

Day Unit (D701)

Day case treatment for haematology patients are provided from D701

Haematology Day Unit at BHOC and satellite chemotherapy units at South Bristol Community Hospital and Concord Medical Centre (Little Stoke).

Haemophilia (D701)

Patients with haemophilia who have a bleed and need to come to the centre for treatment please contact beforehand to let staff know the patient is coming.

Since April 2014 the Bristol Therapeutic Aheresis Unit, a division of NHS Blood and Transplant, has been based in the Bristol Haematology Unit.
