Professor Baumbach completed medical school and his traing at
the University of Tuebingen, Germany. He obtained specialist
qualifications in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Intensive Care
Medicine. He became associate professor at the University of
Tuebingen in 1998. In the year 2000 he moved to Bristol as a Reader
in Cardiology. He was leading the interventional service and has
built a clinical and research programme in interventional
cardiology. He is a honorary Professor of Interventional Cardiology
He is actively involved in multiple clinical trials and
contributes to the NIHR Biomedical Research Unit.
His research interest is in the treatment of acute myocardial
infarction, improvement of drug regimens in acute coronary
syndromes, and innovative devices for the treatment of coronary and
valvular heart disease.
Professor Baumbach is actively engaged in the work of the
British Cardiovascular Intervention Society as Chair of Training
and Education and in the European Association of Percutaneous
Cardiovascular Interventions as Secretary (2014).
